AG2R La Mondiale was a part of the Tour Down Under. Maxime Bouet was the best placed rider as he finished 15th. He also made the best stage result as he finished 5th on the first stage. The last stage was set to be a sprint for Davide Appollonio, but he crashed during the stage.
It has been unclear as what has happened to the rider, but the team now confirmes that he has suffered from a broken collarbone. This will require an operation and Appollonio will be operated on home soil in Italy tomorrow.
He hopes to back in competition at the end of February, but the final decision will be made by the medical manager of the team after some follow-up examinations.
The Italian rider has been with the team since for two seasons now. Before that he drove for Team Sky and Cervelo Test Team. He has 4 victories in his pro carrier as he has won a stage in Tour du Limousin, Tour de Luxembourg and Tour du Poitou Charentes. Together with the stage in Tour de Luxembourg, he also won the sprinter’s classification jersey.
