It was a great performance from the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA riders David Arroyo and Ricardo Vilela today in the Vuelta a Espana. Arroyo finished the stage in 8th place and is now 15th in the general classification.
Omar Fraile had a very calm day, he has only two stages left to be able to certify his King of the Mountain jersey of which he is already the virtual winner. This means that he only has to arrive in Madrid to receive his glory on the final podium of the race.
David Arroyo said at the finish line:
“I felt good, I’m happy, I had good feelings during the stage. I missed out by a bit but that’s what happens when you have a finale with a steep slope made of glass blocks, other people like me who are not very explosive, our legs didn’t work as well as we would’ve liked.
“I think that the team, represented by Vilela and myself, fought hard right up to the end and, yet again, it wasn’t to be. But, as always, we put up a good fight. In the end, we saw that it was a very numerous escape with quality riders and a complicated arrival. I would’ve liked to be up front fighting for the stage victory, but I finished 8th and we have to be happy with that”.
