According to Ciclismo a Fondo, Vuelta a Espana director Javier Guillen has rejected a proposition of shortening the Spanish Grand Tour to just two-week long event, made by the Association of Professional Cyclists (ACP Cycling) during a meeting held last week in Pamplona.
It wasn’t the first time when a suggestion has been made that the Vuelta should last only two weeks, but Guillen stated that it will not happen as long as ASO-Unipublic are responsible for organizing the event as it would have a disastrous consequences for the relevance and prestige of the Spanish Grand Tour.
“ASO-Unipublic totally reject this proposal to shorten the Vuelta a Espana to only two weeks,” Guillen said. “The reform [of professional cycling] is being discussed, but everything is up in the air right now and these were only mere proposals.”
