A sprint and a victory of Mark Cavendish concluded the Clasica de Almeria but for Ag2r it was a good collective result, with the king of the mountaisn and the most aggressive rider prizes for Romain Bardet after a long breakaway and a 7th place for Lloyd Mondory.
Sports Director Julien Jurdie says: "Romain led the race all day long. First in a 5, then 4, then 3 rider breakaway, then alone. It’s always interesting to prepare the next objectives by riding kilometers in front. Today we showed a good team spirit. Six of our riders were in the finale. Lloyd was in the sprint. His form increases and it’s a good sign for the Classics."
Seriously injured in the Vuelta, Lloyd Mondory has recovered. He resumed competition in Dubai Tour. "It’s encouraging because I didn’t expect a top 10 so early. The team is efficient. I learn to ride with Johan Vansummeren and it goes better and better. I will participate in the Trofeo Laigueglia next Thursday with the same goal: to prepare for the classics."
For Romain Bardet, it was a test. "It’s a good day of work," he says. "I decided to ride in front, like in my first seasons with the professionals, being free to attack and being aggressive. Today’s efforts will be useful for the Ruta del Sol, next week. The general behaviour of the group is a satisfaction."
