Two days ago Belgian time trial champion Kristof Vandewalle told CyclingQuotes.com that he will leave Omega Pharma-Quick Step at the end of the season. Today he confirms that Sky will his new destination, hoping to get more personal freedom in the British team.

Following his repeat win with Omega Pharma-Quick Step in the world team time trial championships, Kristof Vandewalle revealed to CyclingQuotes.com that he had decided to leave the Belgian squad. He didn't reveal his future employer but told that he wanted to perform well in shorter stage races and time trials in the future.

Today he confirms to Sport.be that he has signed a contract with Trek. Having mostly been working as a domestique, he feels that it is time for a change to get more personal opportunities.

"These [the world ITT and TTT championships] are my last races with the team," he said. "I will ride for Trek next seasonSylvain Chavanel [IAM] and Peter Velits [BMC] are leaving as well. I think it's time for me to leave because with Patrick Lefevere [OPQS manager] I will have no personal opportunities. Everything is done to support the leaders. I still feel too young to sacrifice myself completely. I want to have my own goals."

Later today Vandewalle will ride the Worlds time trial where he hopes to improve on last year's 24th place. On that occasion, he fell ill between the team and individual races but this year, he has had a better build-up.

He is not too concerned by the fact that he got dropped by his teammates on Sunday.

"I want to be fresh for Wednesday," he said. "For me, a big part of the pressure is gone. In the team time trial it is important that you everything you have, even more than you do in the ITT. Otherwise you risk delaying your team. When alone, you determine the pace and if that isn't enough, so be it. But I am hopeful for Wednesday. I have a good feeling in the legs. I just have to stay concentrated. This is about the legs but also the head. Ideally, I hope for a place in the top 10, otherwise it will be between the 15 and 20 best."

Starting at 13.15 you can follow the race on CyclingQuotes.com/live.
