After three consecutive stage wins, Theo Bos was finally beaten when he could only manage 13th in the final stage of the Tour de Langkawi. The Dutchman claimed to have not felt super and his team openly admit that their sprinter wasn't good enough in today's stage.
Theo Bos said that he was 'not super' today but he still leaves Malaysia's Tour de Langkawi with four stage wins. Today, in the final stage to Kuala Terengganu, the Belkin Pro Cycling Team rider placed 13th behind winner Andrea Guardini (Astana).
"We were on the front with one kilometre to go but my legs didn't feel super," Bos explained. "I told Graeme [Brown] to go when I saw them coming because I didn't want to be boxed in. I went with 300 metres to go, but it was too long."
The stage finished with five circuits along the seaside in western Malaysia and covered 114.7 kilometres from the start in Tasik Kenyir. The Belkin Pro Cycling Team led over the circuits and previewed the final metres to the finish line.
"Everything was perfect in the team but maybe they went a little too early," said Sports Director Michiel Elijzen. "Jack Bobridge did a perfect job, Dennis van Winden went until 500 metres and Graeme dropped off Theo. Guardini immediately countered him and went past him after four pedal strokes. Guardini was better and Theo wasn't good enough."
Despite the miss, Bos and the green and black Belkin team leave the Tour de Langkawi with four wins. Bos took stages two, seven, eight and nine.
"I'm super happy to leave Langkawi with four wins," Bos continued "I have a few classics in Holland and Belgium. I'll just focus on those one-day races now. I'm confidant, my form is good and the team is working very well."
"It builds confidence for the upcoming races, especially better than last year when he got sick after three to four stages," added Elijzen. "The way he goes home now is totally different. He won four stages, he's healthy and had 10 days of racing."
