Having had a tough start to the race with an unfortunate crash, Sam Bennett put his great talent on show when he finished third in the final stage of the Arctic Race of Norway. The result came at the end of an aggressive NetApp-Endura performance that saw Paul Voss end 5th overall.
Sam Bennett ended the Arctic Race of Norway with a fantastic third place for the stage. The NetApp-Endura pro was beaten only by Milan-San Remo winner Alexander Kristoff (Team Katusha) and former world champion Thor Hushovd (BMC Racing) in a sprint by a peloton reduced to some 30 riders. Paul Voss finished the 165-kilometer final section, which started and ended in Tromsø, in seventh place. The Rostock native thus climbed up to fifth place in the overall rankings, which were won by Steven Kruijswijk (Belkin-Pro Cycling Team).
“As announced, we wanted to ride on the offensive today and try something out. And we tried out everything today. The guys kept the tempo high and attacked during the final laps. So they carried out our tactic quite well. Sam was supposed to be oriented to Kristoff, and that’s what he did all, the way to the finish. The third place is surely a rewarding result particularly after the bad luck in the last few days. Paul was supposed to attack and try to climb up a few rungs in the overall ranking on this last day. He also carried out what we wanted from him very well, and showed strong form here. All in all, we can be very satisfied by ending the tour in the top five,” was the conclusion of Enrico Poitschke, Sport Director of Team NetApp – Endura.
After a few days at home, all the NetApp-Endura riders who participated in the Arctic Race of Norway will once again be on hand for the Vattenfall Cyclassics. And Germany’s only World Tour race will of course be a genuine highpoint for this premium German cycling team.
