The third section of the Abu Dhabi Tour included the only mountaintop finish of the race. On the stage over 140 kilometers, the climb to Jebel Hafeet had to be completed in the last 11 kilometers. The mountain had a maximum gradient of over 10%. With Emanuel Buchmann, Patrick Konrad and Dominik Nerz, three riders rode from BORA – ARGON 18 were expected to do well in the stage. And they delivered a strong team performance.
While the victory went to Esteban Chaves (Orica GreendEdge), all three riders were able to finish in the Top 20. They were part of a small group of less than 30 riders, which formed in the first three kilometers of the final mountain. After increasing the pace in the front of this group seven kilometers from the finish, the group was reduced to 15 riders. Konrad and Nerz were able to stay in this group. Two kilometers later, the favorites attacked each other and the group fell apart completely. Konrad reached the finish in 12th place. Ahead of tomorrow's final stage, the 23-year-old Austrian is now ranked 10th in the GC and even 3rd in the youth classification. Dominik Nerz crossed the finish line in 15th and Emanuel Buchmann in 17th place.
