On Sunday, August 2 MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung will take part in the UCI 1.HC Prudential Ride London Classic for the 3rd time.
The single day British race which was originally created as a test event before the 2012 London Olympics has grown in popularity over the years and is attracting a higher calibre field year-on-year. MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung were part of the last two editions of the race but on both occasions the African team would finish just outside of the top 10.
In years past there has been a group sprint of sorts that has decided the race winner. This year the organisers have added another climb in the Surrey Hills region and also shortened the distance from the final climb, Box Hill, to the finish near Buckingham Palace. The alterations should make for an exciting race once again.
MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung will send a strong team, littered with fast men to do the job on Sunday. Theo Bos makes a welcome return to action after crashing out of the Amgen Tour of California in May. Gerald Ciolek, Andreas Stauff, Kristian Sbaragli, Tyler Farrar and Nic Dougall will all also start in London on Sunday.
"It will be our 3rd participation in the London Ride which has become a massive event with a huge funride that attracts a lot of spectators," sports director Jens Zemke said. "We are sending a strong team to this exciting race. Tyler Farrar will be in high spirits coming straight from the Tour de France where he was leading out Edvald [Boasson Hagen]. Gerald Ciolek is coming off the Tour of Austria where he spent two days in the yellow jersey. With this team we can achieve a good result and we want to continue surfing this high wave that we come from at the Tour de France."
