Nacer Bouhanni powered to his 36th win of his career. It happened today in the Spanish one-day race Circuito de Getxo. This also happened to be the comeback race of the Frenchman after his sudden exit from home soil GT Tour de France.
Circuito de Getxo started out like any other race, supposedly to finish off with a bunch sprint, with a breakaway. The breakaway didn’t last to the end of the race and the peloton came back together with 3 km to go and the bunch was settled for a sprint, when arriving under la flamme rouge.
Three sprinters took the lead and it was to be decided among these riders. JJ Lobato and defending champion Carlos Barbero challenged Nacer Bouhanni, but none of them could sprint past the strong former French champion. It is the first win for Bouhanni in the Spanish race.
To El Mundo Bouhanni expressed his happiness with the win, especially after abandoning the Tour de France. He also revealed that his next big hunt for a win will be taking place in Spain, when La Vuelta hit the roads.
“This is great. Especially after what happened to me in Tour de France. My next goal is Vuelta a Espana,” Bouhanni said according to El Mundo.
