Caja Rural were arguably one of the most aggressive teams in yesterday’s Clasica San Sebastian. It started with Lluis Mas, but his break was not successful, then Amets Txurruka went solo until 60km to go, but he was rewarded with three trips to the podium, to recive the most aggressive rider award, king of the mountains award and the breakaway award.
Pello Bilbao was the first Caja Rural rider to finish, 38th at 2:59 from winner Alejandro Valverde.
Eugenio Goikoetxea, sports director of the team, was happy with the three podiums, "the balance can be considered good, the performance and the level of participation, it was our duty to try to be in breaks, perhaps bad luck that has Amets did not have a breakaway companion to make the getaway more enjoyable, but the reward was bigger. He finally gained the podium three times and we're happy. The team worked very well, being in the break, trying to stay on until the end and then having Amets on the podium. "
Amets Txurruka, one of the stars of the day commented on the race: "The goal was to be on the run, always one of the attackers. I attacked and thought someone would go with me, but I looked and saw no one would go with me. It was nice and the new route was a success. I had to regulate my efforts to reach each goal. Now that I am reaching my goals, I am pretty eager to continue doing things right."
