Camaiore will host the start of Tirreno - Adriatico for another three years. Being the starting point for the 2017 edition at the conclusion of a three-year period that began in 2015, the municipal council of the town almost unanimously approved an agreement with organizers RCS Sport for another three years until 2020.
The agreement means that the start of the Corsa dei Due Mari will be held in the Tuscan city. It is traditionally a time trial which will be followed by a second stage that will take off from Camaiore. However, the exact details still haven’t been fixed and they may vary from year to year.
"We have taken an important opportunity and we want to give continuity to the presence of such an important race with obvious positive effects on the tourism industry, on the promotion of the region, the seasonal tourism projects and promotion of Camaiore as a cycling area," commented Mayor Alessandro Del Dotto in Versilia Today.
In recent years the first Italian WorldTour race (in 2017 Strade Bianche will take over that position) has grown tremendously and has clearly overshadowed Paris-Nice when it comes to attracting the biggest names. Greg Van Avermaet won last year’s race and laid the foundations when his BMC team won the team time trial in Camaiore.
