Cannondale Pro Cycling heads to Tirreno-Adriatico aiming to continue its run of form and results.
The seven stage race, beginning on Wednesday March 6 with a team time trial and ending with an individual on Tuesday March 12, will see the team take to the start line with three captains: Peter Sagan, Moreno Moser and Damiano Caruso. At their side will be five experienced riders to support their ambitions: Maciej Bodnar, Kristijan Koren, Tiziano Dall’Antonia, Alan Marangoni and Fabio Sabatini.
Peter Sagan will be at the start with three wins to his name (two stages in Oman and the GP of Camaiore) to play the role of stage hunter. “On paper there are many chances to take a win,” explained the Slovak champion to Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport. “My goal for this Tirreno-Adriatico is a stage win and to improve my form before Milano-San Remo. I feel good and confirmed that at Strade Bianche. We have a strong team and are able to be among the best. And then, there’s Moser: we’ll join forces and form a competitive duo in different stages.”
The winner of Strade Bianche, Moreno Moser, is ready to face the new challenge with enthusiasm. “After the win my morale is high, of course,” affirmed the 22-year-old Italian. “Until the fourth stage, with the summit finish at Prati di Tivo, I would like to see if I can be competitive in the general classification. Then, I’ll see day by day. The Tirreno-Adriatico is a chance to grow for me. My condition is good, but can be better.”
For Damiano Caruso, the main goal is to continue the run-in to the spring classics. “My debut was good but I have to improve my form. The challenge for the general classification, looking at the big names present at the race, will be crowded. From my point of view, it will be an intriguing test. I don’t have specific goals, I just want do my best. Until today my focus was on training, now is the moment to find my racing legs,” affirmed Caruso.
“This race is an important stage,” explained DS Volpi. “And we’re going to race with the right ambitions. We have strong leaders and a solid team. Sagan and Moser are intelligent guys able to complement each other: their cohesion is our strong point. Moreno also has the chance to add new experience competing for the classification.”
