With the new cycling calendar, the organizers of the Grand Prix of Lugano have taken action. The Swiss event will no longer take place at the end of February but on May 7. The date has been approved by the International Cycling Union.
While the event will avoid certain events, such as the opening weekend in Belgium, it will now compete with the Giro d'Italia since it will take place during the first weekend of the first Grand Tour of the year. However, the riders will have better weather conditions and the organizers will see the risks of a cancellation of the event (as it was the case in 2013) being reduced.
The organizers also announced a more difficult course, with a slightly modified start and finish, and they hope to see an interesting field for a race as it takes place just one week after the end of the Tour de Romandie in the same country.
