Danish outfit Christina Watches-Onfone is facing a rapidly approaching deadline in its bid to deliver the required documents to the UCI if it is to be granted a Professional Continental license for the forthcoming 2014 season.

Barely one month ago, team CEO Claus Hembo cited the 2014 Giro d'Italia and the 2016 Tour de France amongst the team's soaring aspirations for the future. At the time, Hembo was quoted as saying that the team had entered "financially sound" negotiations. Four weeks later, nothing tangible has materialized, however.

"We are working feverishly to find a solution, but it is true that we are running short of time," Michael Rasmussen told BT.dk. "Right now, I am reluctant to put percentages on what our chances are to get it all to succeed."

Currently serving a two-year suspension, Rasmussen remains tied to the management of the team and recently conceded that time was running out for Christina Watches to submit their registration with the UCI.

The UCI has previously stated that it will complete the registration process for 2014 Professional Continental teams by November 4 "if no irregularities are brought to notice."

Previously both Alex Rasmussen (Garmin Sharp) and Mads Christensen (Saxo-Tinkoff) have been rumoured as major Danish names to sign for the Christina Watches team in a bid to strengthen the team’s Danish profile. So far, however, both riders remain unconfirmed and this leaves Rasmussen baffled as financial and registration issues continue to constitute the biggest dilemmas for the team at present.

"It's a buyer's market right now, and it will be no problem to find Danish riders to add to the squad," Rasmussen added.

Christina Watches has faced stiff competition from Team Cult Energy for recognition as the premier Danish squad behind Saxo-Tinkoff. Thus far, Christina Watches has amassed nine wins for the season with Cult Energy doing one better. The overriding blow to the team this year, though, came when Christina Watches was ignored as invitations to the Tour of Denmark were sent out, much to the high-pitched and widely publicized consternation of flamboyant CEO Hembo. To add insult to injury, Team Cult Energy took two stages in the race.
