It was a thrilling triumph for Sonny Colbrelli who thanks to the seconds obtained in the last stage took the overall victory at the 48th Tour du Limousin. Due to the sum of stage placing, he beat Jesus Herrada (Movistar), leader of the race this morning.

The outstading success was conquered due to the superb work by the whole Bardiani – CSF team that led Colbrelli out after 18km to win the first intermediate sprint, gaining one second and then taking 2nd place in the final bunch sprint. That was enough to gain another six seconds which brought him into the same time as Herrada but due to the best placings he won the general classification.

Colbrelli also won the white jersey as best young rider, following teammate Manuel Bongiorno who won in 2014.

”Yesterday I was seven seconds behind Herrada but I was still confident that I could move up and win the overall classification. It’s a fantastic emotion to win the race and I have to say thanks to my teammates and sports director Mirko Rossato who has believed in this success since the first day and led us in the best way," Colbrelli said. "Today was hard because everyone knew I was the fastest rider and also a big contender for the overall victory. So with my team we controlled the race for much part of the day. I finished second the final sprint but the most important thing was to take enough seconds to beat Herrada."

”Sonny did a fantastic Tour du Limousin, he deserved this final victory," Rossato said. "I was sure about his success and the possibility to catch Herrada and pass him. When our guys make this kind of performance, they are at the same level as the strongest World Tour teams lie they proved today. I hope this win can be a good motivation for the final part of the season and also help Colbrelli to get a spot in the Italian team for the World Championships in Richmond."
