After the rest day, in which riders tried to recover energies after three tough mountain stages, the Vuelta a Espana got back in march towards Madrid on Wednesday September 9th, with the 38,8 km time trial starting and finishing in Burgos. Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Shimano) lived up to the predictions, dominating the stage with a 46.01 time, and moving atop the overall classification with 3 seconds over Fabio Aru (Astana). Maciej Bodnar (Tinkoff-Saxo) secured the runner-up spot on the day, 1.05 adrift, while Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) completed the day’s podium at 1.08.

With no TT specialists or GC ambitions, Colombia-Coldeportes’ Escarabajos had a steady ride, looking to save energy to hunt for a stage win in the remaining opportunities. Leonardo Duque was the best rider of the team today, 5.29 behind Dumoulin.

“We did not have any real ambition for this time trial, and we are already focused on the upcoming stages where we will try to grab the elusive stage win. In the next few days there will be quite some good opportunities for breakaways, and we will look to be up and ready for it," Sports Director Valerio Tebaldi told.

The first chance will present itself tomorrow, Thursday, on the 204 km way from Roa to Riaza: the 1st category climb to Puerto de Quesera definitely looks like a crucial moment of the stage, peaking with 14 km to go.
