Having been received by the crowd in his home town of Pinto, Alberto Contador revealed that he doesn't plan to end his season yet. Despite skipping the World Championships, he will continue for another few weeks, possibly ending his season at Il Lombardia in the beginning of October.

For the eighth time in his career, Alberto Contador got a massive reception in Pinto where he shared a new victory in a grand tour with his compatriots, in this case his third Vuelta a Espana which is an all-time record in effectiveness as he has won all three editions he has done.

Alberto Contador reached Pinto after a final time trial in Santiago in which none of the GC riders did a good race, given the rain that made the circuit extremely dangerous. Thanks to the large advantage, the leader of Tinkoff-Saxo had no trouble being crowned the overall winner in Obradoiro Square, from where he flew to Madrid to go to the City Council of Pinto where he received the homage of his neighbors and shared the joy of victory.

Contador told the media that since 2007, the first time je went to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Pinto, “the experience has always been amazing. It gives you goosebumps. I’m proud and it is a lasting memory”. He also said that "I am the first one to think about next year's Tour. I will do my best to prepare and get in the best possible condition, being aware that it is very difficult."

Contador will not end the season yet.

"The first thing is rest," he said. "I have to talk to the team and I will probably close the season at the Tour of Lombardy”.

As for the comparisons with Miguel Indurain, he wanted to downplay it. “

"Of course it's an honor, but it isn’t a matter of comparing each other. He was an amazing rider with a great palmares and all I want to do is to enjoy what I’m doing and try to achieve my goals."

Those objectives do not include doing the three grand tours in the same season.

“At the moment it is not a goal”, he said, “I have to think about it because it is something that motivates me. I would do something different, but I have to look at the pros and cons and today I think I won't try."

Finally, Contador admitted that despite having suffered a terrible crash in the Tour just two months before his latest triumph, the 2014 Vuelta was not the most special to him.

“They've all had something special and perhaps the most special is 2012, because my form was not the best and I had to invent a stage that changed the GC."
