The V Granfondo Alberto Contador was held last Saturday in Plasencia with a record ofparticipation of more than 850 riders. The race, over 175 kilometers on a magnificent course through the Monfragüe National Park and the Jerte Valley, served as Alberto Contador's penultimate long training before taking the start at the Giro d'Italia on Saturday, May 9.
The reception was spectacular by the fans from Extremadura because of Contador's emotional closeness to this region from which his entire family comes. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Government of Extremadura and the city of Plasencia, the Granfondo Contador, which each year visits a region of Spain, was held in one of the most attractive areas of the region, not only for tourism but also for cycling.
Alberto Contador enjoyed a relaxed contact with fans before traveling to Italy, where he will fight for victory in his first big challenge of the year.
“This is the purpose for which I have been preparing since the beginning of the year, the fight for victory in the Giro. I sacrificed the results in the beginning of the season for it and we will see what happens there. Today was an important day because it was my first intense training after getting off the Teide and I am happy with the sensations," said the Tinkoff-Saxo leader after completing the race where he rode in front
from start to finish.
