After several years in French teams, Jerome Coppel will try to revive his career at IAM. The Frenchman will support Mathias Frank in the grand tours and plans to target one-week stage races.
Having started his career at FDJ, Saur-Sojasun and Cofidis in France, Jerome Coppel has decided to give a new direction to his career, signing a one-year contract with the Swiss IAM team.
"My role in this team will be to help Mathias Frank in the big stage races on the calendar, like the Tour de France, the three-week races. I also have a similar role in races like Paris-Nice, and I'll have my own chance in one-week races with more time trialling. Why not in the Duaphiné?" he tells ffc.fr
Being a pro continental team, the Swiss team has not yet decided whether it will try to be promoted to the WorldTour in 2015.
"In that case, I may do to grand tours," Coppel adds and points to the Tour-Vuelta double.
Having just participated in a small gathering in Switzerland, the former U23 Worlds bronze medallist is pleased with his new team
"I spent a day with the staff and riders and the atmosphere is very good. Everyone came to talk to me. It's good to get together before the big training camps to come.
"My goal in 2015 is to find the fun after my health concerns. This summer at the Tour of Austria I that I was much better. The legs again turned well and it was confirmed on the roads of the Vuelta. Now I want to return to the level that I had at Saur-Sojasun and achieve good results."
The new adventure is his first experience a foreign team.
"In fact I did not feel it that way," he said. "Of course IAM Cycling is obviously from Switzerland but I am the rider who lives closest to the headquarters. During our first gathering, I saw that the team is very professional and very well-organized. I could see that immediately and it pleased me."
