Tom Danielson retains the red KOM jersey following the penultimate stage of Volta a Catalunya.
He says: "Today the objective was to keep the KOM jersey. The start was extremely hard, and I managed to get into the move. Unlike the last two days, this breakaway was much different with 22 other riders. It enabled us to stay away, but with the climbs not very selective, and far from the finish, it meant I was up against 21 other guys for the stage.
"I was very happy to get maximum points on both climbs and happy the break made it to the finish. It ended up being a sprint of the remainder of us and I don't yet have a kick like my DS Robbie Hunter who was with me all day.
"Nevertheless I gave it my all out there and that's what we do on this team...all heart."
DS Johnny Weltz says: “Tom still has the jersey. He rode great and was ninth on the stage as well. The guys rode great on a nervous stage which saw a very reduced front group at the finish line with our top guns there.”
