US national champion Timmy Duggan (Team Saxo - Tinkoff) crashed and broke his collarbone during stage 3 at the Tour Down Under and he's now out of the race:
"Timmy came thundering through in to a roundabout where he crashed and hit the asphalt pretty hard. He's been examined at the nearest hospital and x-rays showed fracture on his collarbone, so he'll be out of competition for a while. Sad to see him leave like this in his debut for the team," said Fabrizio Guidi.
Stage 3 decided in bunch sprint
The 139 kilometer long third stage of Tour Down Under from Unley to Stirling was decided in a bunch sprint where Tom Slagter (Blanco) was the fastest on the small uphill finish ahead. He took the win ahead of Matt Goss (GreenEdge) and Philippe Gilbert (BMC).
“It was another sprinters' day and unfortunately, Johnny (Cantwell) didn't make it to the front in the finale. However, Chris (Sorensen) is doing better and better in the field and it's going to be interesting to follow him on the next mountain stage of the race," sports director Guidi said.
