Tyler Farrer was agonizingly close to his first win for MTN-Qhubeka when he sprinted to second in the third stage of the Tour du Poitou-Charentes.
"My end of season goal is the World Championships," he told Directvelo. "I have focused on this for a long time. I am currently in full preparation. I begin to regain fitness. We have worked for Gerald Ciolek in the first two stages but I felt that I had good legs. So I told the guys I wanted to try my luck again. Unfortunately I did not win but I'm pretty happy with my 2nd place. There was a gap to the rider from FDJ, he did a nice sprint.
"Gerald Ciolek was again very strong today, het worked well for me. He is also in preparation but the pressure is on everybody. It was good for me to test myself a few weeks before the Worlds. Tomorrow we will ride for Gerald Ciolek again."
