Already one of the strongest in yesterday's Coppa Agostoni, Mauro Finetto (Southeast) confirmed that he has his usual good condition for the end of the season when he finished second behind Vincenzo Nibali at the Coppa Bernocchi.
"We have done a good work," he told Tuttobiciweb. "We were able to resist the comeback from the group, then Nibali made a long sprint. At that point I almost joined him, I anticipated Trentin well but there was nothing to do for the win. Anyway, it's okay and I'm confident for a good end of the season.
"It is a victory that disappeared and suddenly was possible at the same time. Today Trentin was the favourite in the finale so I preferred to take a risk. I waited until he closed the gap but he did not and so we missed it.
"In the final 1500m, we were still watching each other. Then we started to attack when Zilioli accelerated. 500 meters from the finish Trentin started, we caught the two who were with Vincenzo and at that point I made my sprint, but Vincenzo was already at the finish.
"I knew I feel good, like I was good in the early season despite having stalled a bit. I won a stage and the overall at the Sibiu Tour, but it is not enough for what I expect from myself. In these Italian classics I want to do well. Today is a good result. I was in front and that means I am good. I hope that between now and the end of season there will be an opportunity for me."
