The organizers of the Volta ao Algarve have announced 5 WorldTour teams for the Portuguese race. The Etixx-Quick Step team of defending champion Michal Kwiatkowski is among the participants.
Sky, Ettix-Quick Step, Cannondale-Garmin, Lotto-Soudal and Katusha are the top five teams announced for the Volta ao Algarve (February 18-22).
The organizers have announced that 20 teams will participate in the race. In addition to the five WorldTour teams, all the Portuguese continental teams are guaranteed a spot in the international event in Portugal.
The Tour will again have a well-balanced route with a summit finish, a 20km time trial, a medium mountain stage and two sprint stages. In 2014, Michal Kwiatkowski beat Alberto Contador and Rui Costa in the battle for the win. Tony Martin won in 2013 and 201,1 Richie Porte took the victory in 2012 and Contador was the best in 2009 and 2010.
