Currently the most successful Italian classics specialist, Enrico Gasparotto, remains uncertain abort his future in professional cycling after it has been confirmed that Astana won’t extend his contract. 32-year old rider’s agent remains optimistic, however, pointing out to Samuel Sanchez who enjoyed a reasonably successful season after struggling hard to find a new outfit to continue his career with.
Gasparotto is the last Italian to triumph in spring classics, claiming a victory at the Amstel Gold Race back in 2012. The 32-year old has been unable to refer to this result next two seasons and thus Astana decided not to extend his contract through 2015.
As a result, Gasparotto for the first time since five years is forced to look for a new outfit. Even though his future is currently still on stake his agent insists that every team would welcome him on board after lowering financial demands.
“Enrico wouldn’t have any problems with finding a new team at the minimum wage, all would like to get him,” said his agent Alex Carera.
“But his a big shot for the classics, the only Italian to triumph in such races since 2008. I’m working hard on that issue and hope to cut a deal worth his name before he returns from his honeymoon,” Gasparotto’s agent revealed, according to Spaziociclismo.
