After a few days working for sprinter Jakub Mareczko, Francesco Gavazzi got his chance for Southeast in stage 5 of the Tour of Hainan which ended with an uphill sprint. The Italian ended the stage in a good 5th place.
The satisfaction is due also by the great performance of the team which saw six of the seven team members in the top 40 of the day, with Jakub Marezcko holding his position in the top 10 of the general classification at 29” from leader Sacha Modolo.
Tomorrow's 174km from Qiongzhong to Sanya will be another chance for the sprinters
“It was a hard uphill final with this 3-4% gradient. I’ve tried against people much faster than me, launching the sprint from too far behind and then coming back at the end. I wait for stages more suitable to me," Gavazzi said.
