Fernando Gaviria who took his first win of the season at the Tour de San Luis, wants to challenge himself on the cobbles in years to come. He wants to improve his sprint, but he wants to be competitive in the spring classics too.
"Etixx-Quick Step put a contract on the table after the 2015 San Luis and I could not say no to this chance, especially as I'm fascinated not only by sprints, but also by the cobbles, and Etixx-Quick Step is the best team in the world when it comes to these one-day races", he told Belgian team's website.
His favorite race ? Paris-Roubaix ! "I watched it on TV on numerous occasions and seeing how riders are capable of overcoming all the obstacles and the suffering for six or seven hours was really inspiring. Hopefully, one day I will ride there and test myself."
The Colombian wants to combine the road and the track. "I will commit to the track, hoping for a good performance at the World Championships in London. This year, I will mix road with track, but I can't say I have any particular goals."
Gaviria had to leave the Tour de San Luis after a crash on the stage 6 and has a crack in his radius. He will force him to have a three-week break. It is sigh of relief as he will be able to train on the rollers and so he should be able to line up at the Track World Championships in London.
