Simon Gerrans, who broke his collarbone a few weeks ago, is absent from the Tour Down Under. But the Australian rider is determined to transform his absence into a lucky break. He is focused on the April Ardennes classics, his first goals of the year.
"It's a bit of a different challenge ... it's a good way to approach things this year," Gerrans told AAP. "As bitterly disappointed as I was not to be able to race in Australia, I really tried to focus on the positive side to that. It has given me the opportunity to approach the season in a different way. On top of that, hopefully it will leave me just a little bit fresher for my goals later in the season."
According the Orica GreenEDGE rider, his collarbone has repaired quickly. "I have a long time before my next big goal, so it's just allowed me to take a couple of steps back and put in some good foundations."
