Having broken his hip in the Tour of Switzerland, Marc Goos had hoped to return to competition before the end of the season. However, the Dutch climber has decided to skip the Tour of Hainan, meaning that he will postpone his comeback until 2015.
In consultation with the Belkin team management, Marc Goos has decided that he will not do any more races in 2014 after he broke his hip midway through the season in the Tour de Suisse. The Tour of Hainan also turned out not to be feasible goal.
Goos confirms the decision on his website but is lucky to be assured a contract extension with the new Team Lotto.nl.
“Even though there were no longer many races for me, I had hoped to be riding a few. However, all injuries are different so we decided not to take any risks to be able to start the next season on a good way. This once again shows how a big injury midway through the season can be disastrous for the rest of the year.”
Goos played a key role as support rider for Wilco Kelderman in this year’s Giro d’Italia.
