After abandoning the Giro, Canadian Ruder Hesjedal has turned his attention to the Criterium du Dauphine and trying to make Trek-Segafredo’s Tour de France team, where Bauke Mollema leads them in the GC battle.

“Riding the Tour was always a possibility,” Hesjedal said during an interview with VeloNews on Saturday. “The Tour was always there, but the first goal was the Giro. When you leave the Giro like that, when you didn’t get the chance to push yourself and perform, you’re hungrier for the next opportunity. And the Tour is the Tour.”

With rmours the 35 year old will retire at the end of the season, he says he is just focusing on racing and that any decisions on his future will be made at a later date.

“I’m living in the here and now, and what I need to do each day. Right now, that means starting the Dauphiné,” he said. “I am not making a decision about November or January right now. I am focused right now on being a bike racer.”
