Less than a week after winning the final stage of the Tour de Normandie, Benoit Jarrier continued his excellent run of form by taking third in today's hard one-day race Route Adelié Vitré. The result capped a great showing by his Bretagne teama and the Frenchman now feels ready to take a big win.
Benoit Jarrier rose to fame when he finished second in the race known as the Breton Paris-Roubaix, Tro-Bro Leon, in 2012 and his results earned him a contract with the Bretagne team. After a difficult first year, he has continued his steady progress and this year he has been close to his first big win.
Less than a week ago he took his first victory in a smaller race when he won the final stage of the Tour de Normandie and he ended the tough race in second overall. Today he continued his excellent run of form when he finished third in the bigger race, Route Adelié Vitre, which is part of the Coupe de France race series.
The result comes on the back of a third place in a stage of the Etoile de Besseges and a fifth place in the Cholet - Pays de Loire and capped a fantastic performance by his Bretagne team. The Breton formation put no less than four rider in the 28-rider group that decided the race and despite having no real sprinter, they came away with third, fourth (for Clement Koretzky) and sixth (for Christophe Laborie).
"We knew it was important to attack on the small final circuit," he said. "We knew it was there that it was going to happen. I didn't think that we would be so numerous in that group. There were also several riders from Europcar so they rode for Bryan Coquard.
"We tried to play it wisely as between Clément Koretzky, Pierre-Luc Périchon, Christophe Laborie and myself there was no pure sprinter. So we knew there was a chance of getting beaten. We did not win, but it's still not bad.
"I made up several places in the sprint, but in the final turn I was a bit too far back. I was in eighth or ninth position. So it was just a bad position for the finale.
"Clément Koretzky said he was not feelinggood and that he would devote himself to others. 2nd place was doable if I was better placed.
"April is a month that suits me well. I am always in good condition. So I'll enjoy it. Why not try to raise the arms in a round of the Coupe de France race or a category 1 race? Two years ago I finished 7th in the Coupe de France. We will see if the teams classification can become a goal.
