During the 12th stage of the Giro d’Italia, Manuel Belletti (Southeast) abandoned because of knee pain after a problem last Sunday.
“This is the first big problem of the season and it’s a pity it happens in the Giro d’Italia," he said. "I wanted to do well. I’m disappointed for me and for my team. I wanted to win a stage but it wasn’t possible. I had a problem with my knee last Sunday when it hit the bike and the situation has worsened. I have to do more tests and I hope to recover quickly. I have to think of the rest of the season.“
The first rider of the Tuscan team to reach the finish line under a big storm was Mauro Finetto, 42nd at 2’34” from winner Philippe Gilbert.
