Mikel Landa (1990) has the Giro d'Italia as his first challenge with Team Sky. The Spaniard has joined the British team of Dave Brailsford and Chris Froome with the highest ambitions after his fabulous season at Astana.

Landa ended five exceptional months that started with a stage wi in the Tour of the Basque Country when he decided the Vuelta a Espana for his teammate Fabio Aru in the best possible way. He was the best in the mountains of the Giro d'Italia and finished third behind Contador and Aru and confirmed its excellence with the victory in the queen stage of the Vuelta in Andorra. He ended in the best way, working for Nibali in Il Lombardia.

Landa had no doubt that he had to take a leave Astana, Aru and Nibali to get more chances to grow at Team Sky. "I am very pleased that it is a team that has invested so much in me and has all means to improve my shortcomings - above all, the time trial. They allow me to fulfill my dream is to contend for the win in a grand tour and out everything at my disposal," he told BiciCiclismo.

Landa has met his new teammates in London at a tam gathering and will define his schedule at the first training camp of his new team in December in Mallorca.  "It is about adapting to the team and having a group around me to supper me on the flats and in the medium mountains. Knowing what is best for me. They give me the opportunity to be a leader and know their way in such situations. And now it is my turn to learn to be a leader. The short-term goal is the Giro d'Italia. My goal is to win," he said.

Landa does not think beyond the Giro or about a possible the Tour debut in France. "I hope I'm able to help Froome in the Tour, but it is not something that haunts me and we have not even spoken about it. I am in no hurry to ride the Tour," he said.

Finally, Landa does not want to forget the two seasons in Astana. "I am very grateful to Astana for the opportunity, experience and two years that have helped me a lot, especially the last one when I learned enormously. I felt very welll-supported despite what has been said," he concluded.
