After a breakthrough year at Astana, Mikel Landa has joined Team Sky where he is set to be the leader at the Giro d'Italia. The Basque recently posed for his new photos in his new team kit.

"I am very happy," he told AS in an interview. "I have been wanting to change for several days but the contracts run until December 31 and I had to wait."

Landa recently attended his first training camp with the British team.

"It went very well, they are very nice people," he said. "It was the first serious contact and having home rider like Mikel Nieve and Beñat Intxausti there made things easier."

Landa also met team leader Chris Froome. "He is very nice and very approachable, a good guy," he said.

While Froome will lead the team in the Tour, Landa will be the Giro leader. He already knows which riders will be at his side.

"There was a Tour group, one for the classics and one for the Giro which was mine," he said about the training camp. "The first two went a little harder and we had to be quieter. It motivates me a lot and I wanted to be in a situation like this.

"There's a group of ten or fifteen riders and then, depending on how they feel when the race approaches, the final selection will be made: David Lopez, Beñat Intxausti, Knees, Kennaugh, Boswell, Deignan, König and a few more."

Landa also confirmed the schedule that was already known.

"I'll start in the Tour of Valencia and then I will do Tirreno-Adriatico, Pais Vasco and Giro del Trentino," he said.

"The classics depend on whether I will be good in Trentino. They are good dates to inspect stages of the Giro and maybe we will focus on that during those day. It will be difficult to do earlier because of the weather and snow. Otherwise I will do the Liege."

This year's Giro includes three time trials which is a big disadvantage for Landa.

"I am a bit worried, yes, because it is clearly not my strong point," he said. "It is something that I will surely try to imrpove. I usually train  with the special bike twice a week.

"Being a climber has its pros and cons. However, there are manymountain stages in this Giro  and we have our options."

While the Giro is the main goal, Landa may also ride the Tour in support of Froome.

"I would like to know more as soon as possible, but it's a rather personal matter," he said. "Right now I'm focused on the Giro because I know that I am going to ride there."

Another goal could be the Olympics.

"I'd love to be there. I also think the course is good for climbers," he concluded.
