According to De Telegraph, Dutch Laurens Ten Dam has been hit by a vehicle during his training in his native Holland. The Team LottoNL Jumbo rider explained that the car was travelling at 80 kilometers per hour when it hit him from behind. Tean Dam is currently at the hospital. He is suffering from fractured vertebrae.
"It's never great of course when you get hit by a car but the timing of this couldn't have been worse since I was really looking forward to the last part of the season and especially the Vuelta. It's still too early to really understand exactly what impact this injury will have on the rest of my season but as always I'll come back fighting."
This season, his best result is a 10th place during the stage 7 of the Amgen Tour of California. He finished also 20th overall at the Tour de Suisse.
His goal was the Vuelta but it has now been determined that he will have to rest for six weeks, meaning that there will be no Spanish grand tour for the unlucky Dutchman.
