While Tony Martin temporarily refuses to become the new Cancellara, his team-mate Tom Boonen is expected to be the best version of himself in the upcomming classics campaign. At least by the Etixx-Quick Step manager Patrick Lefevere.
„Boonen will be there,” Lefevere said, according to Wielerflits. „He was able to left behind riders like Sagan and Kristoff in sprints at the Tour of Oman. His explosiveness is not gone, he remains sharp and is in a good shape.”
Even though Boonen is reportedly not ready to hang up his wheels yet, the Etixx-Quick Step manager has to start planning the future with new riders capable of filling shoes of the decorated classics specialist.
„I'm obviously busy thinking of the post-Boonen era, but I have a deep squad with Trentin, Stybar, Terpstra and Vendenbergh.”
