Stage 7 between Grosseto and Fiuggi is the longest one of this Giro: 264 kilometres. The course goes from flat to wavy, with opportunities for escapees in the finale.
“Such a distance, with headwind, means a ride of possibly seven hours," Lotto Soudal sports director Marc Wauters said. "It’s hard to predict the end. Do some teams think to have a chance in the finale with a certain rider? Can a breakaway survive till the finish line?
"In any case it’s a stage for riders with a big engine, and there might be some of those in the Lotto Soudal team. The composition of the break will be decisive. Are Italian teams represented? Are the riders far enough down in GC? I’m looking forward to it!”
