A new WorldTour team for the Spaniard

According to esciclismo.com Luis Leon Sanchez has signed with a team in the WorldTour, but cannot reveal the name of his new team before January.

The talented Spaniard will therefore avoid unemployment next year, and will avoid the fate of many other riders, who have been left behind, by the economic collapse of several teams.

“What is clear is that Luis Leon Sanchez will be riding next year, but that he cannot reveal his team before January,” Sanchez’ agent Ángel Buenache told esciclismo.com.

That Sanchez would end up with a team for the coming season should not come as a surprise. He has been one of the most notorious stage-hunters in the peloton, and has also collected the overall prizes of Paris-Nice and the Tour Down Under.

Nonetheless, he has been linked to the Operación Puerto doping case, and to the notorious doctor Eufemiano Fuentes. It was also the association to the Spanish doping scandal that caused Belkin to suspend Sanchez indefinitely, stating that they wanted to investigate the claims. Although Sanchez managed, with the help of a court decision, to join the team again for the Tour of Belgium, he was later dropped completely.

When asked about Sanchez’ current plans for his return his agent stated that the most important thing was for him recover from the turbulent last months of the season.

“Now the first and foremost objective is to recover mentally. That is more important than anything else,” Buenache concluded.
