"300 meters from the finish I was closed and I had to stop pedaling which caused me to lose speed."
Those were the words of Davide Malacarne after stage two of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. Malacarne and his Astana teammates had been working to stay in the top positions of the group with their captain Fabio Aru.
Malacarne was tenth after a very wet and fast finale concluded by the sprint won by Alejandro Valverde of Spain. He is now fourteenth in the overall classification with a 2m50s gap from the leader Maciej Paterski of Poland.
