After his fourth place in Laigueglia, Matteo Montaguti delivered another great performance when he finished third in the GP Lugano. The Ag2r rider did a great race and in the sprint he was only beaten by Niccolo Bonifazio and Francesco Gavazzi.
"I attacked from afar in the final lap, hoping to anticipate the sprinters and to arrive with a small group without sprinters," he told Spaziociclismo. "But they caught us before the final climb. I dig deep and I was among the last riders in the first group. I recovered on the descent and then I positioned myself well for the sprint. With Nocentini and Bakelants, we were three Ag2r riders in the group but we could not get organized. Rinaldo Nocentini gave me a nice hand but we could not take the final turn in the front and ended up third. I'm not a sprinter and I could not do better."
