As the race ended on a tough finishing circuit, Danilo Napolitano didn't have big expectations for yesterday's GP di Prato. The fast Italian surprised himself by finishing on the podium.
Danilo Napolitano is known as a pure sprinter who has a hard time dealing with even the smallest climb. Hence, few had expected him to finish with the best in yesterday's GP Prato.
Nonetheless, the Wanty sprinter achieved one of his best results in 2014 when he sprinted to a fine third place.
"I am happy with this result because I did not expect to be close to the front," he said at the post-race press conference. "The circuit was very hard and yesterday I did not feel good. In the final two laps I was on my limit due to the hard work by the Italian national team who were aided by a camera motorcycle. In the final lap, Katusha went full gas.
"[Race winner] Sonny Colbrelli is going really well and he deserves to be on the National team. He is faster at the end of hard races while I am good at the end of easier races.
Napolitano will end his season inn Belgium and France where he will do the Tour de l'Eurométropole and Paris - Tours.
