Ramunas Navardauskas (Garmin-Sharp) won the perennial battle between himself and Ignatas Konovalovas (MTN-Qhubeka) at the Lithuanian TT championships to reclaim the jersey he last wore after his 2012 victory in the event. He beat his rival by 21 seconds while Gediminas Bagdonas (Ag2r) was more than a minute behind in third.
Over the last few years, the Lithuanian time trial championships have been a battle between Ramunas Navardauskas, Gediminas Bagdonas and Ignatas Konovalovas who between them have won every title since 2007. This year Navardauskas emerged as the strongest to claim his second win in the event.
The Garmin-Sharp rider was 21 seconds faster than defending champion Konovalovas whose 4 victories makes him the most successful of the trio while 2007 and 2011 champion Bagdonas had to settle for third. The win confirms Navardauskas' progress in the discipline that also saw him win the Circuit de la Sarthe TT earlier this year.
Navardauskas, Konovalovas and Bagdonas are again expected to play a dominant role when the road race takes place on Sunday.
Result:
1. Ramunas Navardauskas
2. Ignatas Konovalovas +0.21
3. Gediminas Bagdonas +1.21
