Daniel Navarro wants a stage in the Tour de France 2014. He was ninth last year in the General Classification, his goal this year is another. He wants to raise his arms at a finish line. He is 135th at 43:13 to Vincenzo Nibali overall. His terrain, the mountains, comes now. The Spanish rider is in his second season in the Cofidis and does not rule working with Alberto Contador.

Since his debut in 2005 to 2012, Navarro rode alongside Contador, in Liberty, Astana and Saxo Bank, except in 2007 when the Spaniard went to the Discovery Channel. In those years, the Spaniard keeps great memories.

Navarro (1983) terminates contract with Cofidis and still has not decided his future at the end of the season. "It is true that I have some suggestions, not thousands, but especially one of a team of World Tour, without forgetting that Cofidis leaders seem to want me to stay. I am studying the different options available to me," he says in an interview in L'Equipe.

His advantage is that he can be a leader of a team as gregarious as Cofidisoror or a luxury mountain domestique in a larger team. "I do not rule out anything. In fact, I adapt to all situations and never bothered me to work for a leader," he says.

The Gijón climber left Saxo Bank for his gregarious role to ride for Cofidis and achieve a leadership role. "At this point, I needed to clear my mind a little. I spent a lot of time working for others and I felt the need to know more. Cofidis offered me this opportunity. It is also true that Saxo Bank may have kept me, but with a considerable reduction of my salary," he recalls.

"I left a large structure WoldTour team with big goals in big returns for a small team, but I also had ambitions. I do not have to stick to long trip to Australia, China and Japan, and that suited me perfectly. I felt more in my element," he explains.

No regrets his departure from Saxo Bank: "No, not really. In two years, I think I have had some good results for the Cofidis team without having any experience as a leader. Frankly, today, if Alberto calls me back I’d have no problem going," says honest. "Everything is possible. I would love to work for Alberto Contador again. Do the work for him, I always liked that. In fact, I am very happy to do climbing work. I did that for a large part of my career and being a leader working to have experienced the greatest joys," he says.

"When I was able to ride alongside a rider like Alberto Contador, I was virtually guaranteed victory 90% of the time. Of course it's gratifying to see your leader win knowing that you have contributed to this victory," he says in the French sports daily.

Last year he won the Tour of Murcia, was fifth in the Dauphiné and ninth in the Tour de France and in 2014 he was ranked ninth in the Dauphiné before the Tour.
