German cycling team NetApp-Endura is one of the candidates that can hope for an invite to participate in the Tour de France. For the 100th edition of the world’s most important cycle race, organizer ASO is issuing three wildcards this year. For the first time in its history, the German squad has made it onto the shortlist of six teams.

“Our team represents a new generation of cyclists. We have been pursuing this objective not only in tough times such as these, but consistently for four years. The young team of clean riders is certainly not going out there to win the Tour de France, but we are confident enough to play a deciding role in the world’s best cycle race”, comments Ralph Denk, team manager of Team NetApp-Endura.

Only last year the team was invited to take part in the Giro d’Italia. With two second places, various placements among the top ten and a strong presence in the breakaway groups, the team enjoyed a successful debut in a Grand Tour.

“I would be delighted if our hard work and constant development were rewarded with an invitation to the Tour. After two years with no German team, our participation in the 100th Tour de France would be something really special for the German fans”, Denk goes on to say.

The participation of a German team in the Tour might entice the interest of German media and revitalize the interest in cycling in Germany. This could influence ASO’s decision.
