La Fuente del Chivo will host a summit finish of the 2015 Vuelta a Espana after a 21km climb that ends at nearly 2000m of altitude. It is an extension of the climb to the ski resort of Alto Campoo which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.

With only the official confirmation lacking, la Fuente del Chivo seems destined to hist the finish of the 14th stage of the Vuelta a Espana on Saturday, September 5 after a start in Vitoria-Gasteiz, according to a report in Diairo Montanes.

The Vuelta has never reached Fuente del Chivo, an extension of Alto Campoo, the ski resort which has greeted the Vuelta in 1985, 1987 and 1993, with victories for Antonio Agudelo, Enrique Aja and Jesus Montoya, respectively. For the fans and riders, however, it is an unknown climb even though the former Circuito Montanes race has reached the peak at 1992m of altitude.

The climb is 21 kilometers long and starts in the town of Espinilla (at 935 meters). It is a climb that gets tougher and tougher. The first five kilometres are false flat and from kilometre six, it has sections of around 6%. It gets more demanding in the last five kilometres, with average gradients of 6.6%, 6.1%, 6.4%, 8.9% and 9.2% and sections of 13% to 17 %.

The question is how hard the first part of the race will be.

The mayor of the Hermanded de Campoo de Suso, Pedro Luis Gutierrez (PP) told Diario Montanes that they only need to negotiate some details and that Cantabria Presiden Ignacio Diego has been negotiating directly with organzers Unipublic. Furthermore, the regional government has confirmed that Diego also negotiates with Unipublic about Comillas hosting a stage start or finish in 2016.

Cantabria has been visited by the latest editions of the Vuelta, with stage finishes in Peña Cabarga, Noja, Fuente De and Cabárceno and starts in Santander, Solares, San Vicente de la Barquera and Noja.

The 2015 race will be held between August 22 and September 14, will start with a time trial in Puerto Banus (either a TTT or an ITT) ad Andorra will host one of the queen stages with a stage over La Gallina and with a new finish. The official presentation will take place on January 10 in Torremolinos.
