The Giro d'Italia will be the big focus for Vincenzo Nibali in 2016 which will be his final year at Astana. In 2017, a new Italian team is reported to be created around the the grand tour star.
Nibali finished the 2015 Tour just outside the podium after winning last year's race but came away with a stage win after a bad start. Now he will recover before going to the Vuelta alongside Fabio Aru and Mikel Landa. The Kazakh team will go to the Spanish grand tour with all their grand tour stars to try to take the elusive victory.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Nibali will focus on the Giro in 2016 and will skip the Tour to prepare for the Olympic Games. Furthermore, the Italian newspaper claims that it will be his final year at Astana which is set to be built around Aru for the future.
In addition to interest from teams like Trek, BMC and Etixx-QuickStep, Nibali has a dream about creating his own team with sponsors who believe in him and have the same approach to cycling. He is reportedly working to create a national team led by himself.
