Sonny Colbrelli missed the second victory in a row at Coppa Sabatini (Peccioli – Peccioli, 197.9km). Bardiani – CSF’s rider crossed the line after the uphill finish in 6th place, forced to slow down due to Bakelants (AG2R) who closed him towards the barriers.
Howeverm Bardiani was author of a strong team performance, setting the pace in front of the peloton for most of day. Then in the finale it was Barbin who led Colbrelli into the best position, especially in the first part of the uphill finish.
“I’m sorry for my team-mates who made a stunning work during the whole day. We wanted the victory and we did everything to achieve this result. Unfortunately, in the final climb Prades surprised everyone. We thought that we could catch him before the finish line but he was strong enough to take the victory. Behind I was going to finish second or third but Bakelants closed me and I was forced to slow down in my sprint, losing the podium. Now I have one last race, GP Beghelli, where I hope to do better,” Sonny Colbrelli said.
