Maximilano Richeze was one of many sprinters to hit the deck in today's hectic finale of the Eneco Tour. Luckily, the Argentinean escaped any major injuries.
With Sacha Modolo out of the race, Maximilano Richeze has taken over the role as lead sprinter for Lampre-Merida in the Eneco Tour and today he had his final chance to go for stage victory. Unfortunately, he was one of many to hit the deck in the horrific crash that marred the finale.
Unlike defending champion Zdenek Stybar who abandoned the race, Richeze suffered no major injuries.
"Richeze was selected as our sprinter for today's stage due his bike-handling skills and his strength," sports director Orlando Maini said. "These are the characteristics necessary to obtain a good result in such finishes.
"There were some riders that stop pedalling in the three bends and Richeze had to overtake them and trying to recover positions on the finishing straight, but he was already out of the battle for the victory. Unfortunately, he was hit by a bike from a fallen rider which brought him down in a crash. Luckily, he has no major injuries."
