Spain has announced its nine riders for the World Championships in Qatar. Juan José Lobato and Carlos Barbero will be the leaders of the Spanish team. Jonathan Castroviejo will go for a medal in the time trial.
The Spanish Cycling Federation has put together a varied selection. Besides Lobato, Barbero and Castroviejo, Diego Rubio, Imanol Erviti (who will also do the time trial) and Francisco Ventoso have been selected. Climbers David De la Cruz, Omar Fraile and Luis Ángel Maté will also tackle the flat World Championships in Doha.
Alejendro Valverde is missing in the national team of Javier Mínguez. The 36-year-old rider from Movistar had recently told that he would like to participate, but he did not make the final selection. The Movistar leader has won six medals in the past but has still never worn the rainbow jersey.
